New Music: Brian Deady

With the release of his debut album last October, Brian Deady firmly put down a marker that confirmed him as one of the most endearing and unique artists to come out of this country in a very long time. A nation known more for traditional rock (U2, Thin Lizzy), singer-songwriters (Villagers, Damien Rice), by the numbers indie acts (Bell X1) and pop acts (Westlife, Boyzone), it's rare that Ireland produces an act so heavily influenced by soul, hip-hop and even disco.

Deady's sound is heavily in debted to a starting range of musicians: everyone from the legends such as Marvin Gaye, Steely Dan, Al Green to contemporary musicians such as Erykah Badu and Outkast. A genuinely unique sound - an authentic blend of hip-hop beats, soul rhythms and sharp, clever vocals. Deady stands out from the crowd in a manner similar to Janelle Monae and the aforementioned Badu and Outkast.

Colourful and soulful, this album has a classic soul feel to it and is one I would highly recommend getting your hands on if you haven't already.

He is one of the many fantastic acts confirmed for the Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, Co. Laois this coming September. Miss him at your peril...
