Track Review: Interpol "Lights"

Last Thursday, a new track from New York's finest (well....) Interpol. Sufficient excitement surrounded this - and understandably so as it was the first thing they've put out since 2007's magnificent Our Love To Admire.

Clocking in at 5 minutes 39 seconds, the track is typical Interpol affair. Dark and gloomy - Interpol at their very best. For the first three and a half minutes, the track is building. It feels like an intro to a new album - similar to Pioneer to the Falls from the last album, and Untitled from the debut.

At the 3:30 mark the song explodes into life with the repeat of the chorus line "that's why I hold you, dear". After the four minute mark this refrain takes hold with the jangly guitar that we are used to from Interpol and the song takes on a life of it's own. Great stuff.

A really strong opener from Interpol - hopefully an indicator of album number 4. There are no details confirmed about the new album. Download "Lights" below.
