great to find this! i was one amongst the crowd, a enthusiastic german among all the irish. when i came to ireland about two weeks before the concert i was glad to be the owner of a ticket for the german concert at frankfurt. when i tried to get a ticket in some record-shops in dublin, everybody laughed at me, but: in a small westcoast-record-shop i got a ticket plus a bus-ticket to slane. what a great day that was! what a show! what a crowd!
what a bus! on the way back my seat began to burn. the heater was defect and so i had a really hot night after the show.
25 years ago? can't believe! feels like yesterday.

The National are a fantastic band. I must admit it took me a few goes to really get into them but I genuinely struggle to think of a band I prefer right now, and any of the albums 'Boxer', 'Alligator' and 'High Violet' are worthy additions to any collection.

Eminem didnt even come close to topping the Jay Z gig. It was easily the best gig I have ever seen! As a huge Jay Z fan, it was the reason I came to Oxegen, but all my mates that came with me who wouldnt know any of his material thought he was insane aswell. Let him headline next time he comes back!

I couldn't have said it better myself - I unfortunately missed most of Villagers, but agree that Camera Obscura were lacklustre to say the least. On the otherhand, Midlake were suberb, great guitars, and yes, much heavier than I expected. Grizzly Bear's set completely blew me away from start to finish, and with such a good atmosphere in the crowd. It was well worth the trip from England for this very special night in Cork.

A great night of quality music indeed. Totally agree with your review. It was the first time i'd seen any of these acts live. Villagars were absolutely superb. Right up there with Midlake and Grizzly Bear. Congrats to organisers.

Thanks Ronan. I can't imagine it will affect me directly as a blogger as much as yourself, Peter, Kevin, etc. (I'm pretty sure that Interpol's new song was the first MP3 I've posted...) but I think Irish music would certainly begin to feel the pinch should IMRO get their way.
