Live Review: The Black Keys @ Oxegen 2010

When & Where? Main Stage on Friday 9th July @ 16:10.

The Akron, OH blues duo (though they themselves claim that they are more influenced by hip-hop than anything else) brought some much needed rock energy to the Main Stage on Friday afternoon. A relatively small crowd (it was well padded out by many waiting for Vampire Weekend) stood out in the rain for a mixed set.

The band began with three older songs that the crowd didn't respond too well to, among them the simply wonderful Thickfreakness. However, the mood improved when the band brought out a third member to help them out on new tracks Everlasting Light, Next Girl, Howlin' For You (the easy singalong chorus of "Nah na na naah! Nah na na Naah!" had everyone involved) and Tighten Up. The final two of those four were particularly fantastic.

Following that set, the third man left the original two of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney to strut their stuff and they finished with a superb run of No Trust, Your Touch and I Got Mine. The crowd were on a high when they finally left the stage - eventhough the rain was getting heavier and heavier.
