New Music: CocoRosie

A sister duo with complex origins (the project began in Paris, France, while the sisters themselves are North American: half-Cherokee in fact, or so their myspace and last.fm pages claim!), the sound is as rich and experimental as you'd expect. Fusing hip-hop, electronica, hushed lo-fi vocals and new-wave sounds, they have landed on something referred to by many as freak-folk with hints of trip-hop...

Yeah it really is quite difficult to explain.

It's safe to say that CocoRosie are rather different, though this is certainly a good thing. It's been a while since I've heard anything quite like this - and they don't sound too similar to the majority of music that I've been playing lately.

Lemonade is a simply stunning track. It is the lead single from off new album, Grey Oceans, which hits stores in late May.

Last.fm likens them to Devandra Banhart, Cat Power, Antony & the Johnsons, Joanna Newsom and Bjork - an eclectic bunch to say the least!
Highly recommended. Check out Lemonade here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xO0G_AaOV6o
