Dark Night of the Soul Gets Release Date

Dark Night of the Soul is the name of a project conceived and recorded last year by Danger Mouse and the late Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse). The album features an array of special guest appearances including the Flaming Lips, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Vic Chesnutt, Julian Casablancas and visionary filmmaker David Lynch.

To anyone not in the know, due to a dispute between Danger Mouse and EMI, the album was shelved. It appeared online and Danger Mouse took to handing out blank CDs and a book about the album at live gigs to fans so it is readily available if you know where to look.

However, to anyone who wants to get their hands on the real thing - good news! July 12th in the UK and July 9th in Ireland... Let me just say - it is a great record. I've eh.. Been told. By a friend. Of a friend...

Sadly, of course, Mark Linkous did not live to see the album's release. He committed suicide in January. His family released a statement saying: "Mark felt that it was an honor to be able to collaborate with so many of the artists on this record. His time and dedication to this project was immense and his hopes for its release are finally being realized. We are glad that people will now be able to hear these songs and know the beautiful gift that Mark shared with all of us through his music."

The album will be accompanied by a series of original photographs by David Lynch and will be dedicated to the late Vic Chesnutt who died last December.
